Sharon Perlmutter has been reviewing theatre in L.A. for Talkin’ Broadway since 2000, and has been a proud member of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle since 2003.
She is an attorney who “practices law to support her theatre habit.” Blessed with a passion for musicals, but saddled with a four-note range, Sharon decided fairly early on that her part in musical theatre would be played from the audience. She attacked the pursuit with a vengeance, and amassed a ticket stub collection, which broke the lid of its box, and a Playbill collection fighting the drawers of its file cabinet. As a favor for a teacher, she began judging Junior High and High School Shakespeare Festivals, and when she noticed that her “feedback sheets” were twice as long as those of other judges, she decided to look into writing about theatre.
When she officially became a critic, Sharon made a vow that she would stop reviewing the second it ever made going to the theatre feel like a job; that was nearly twelve years ago, and she’s still at it.
