Don Shirley writes regularly about theater in Angeles Stage at Substack. From 2014 to 2020, he wrote about theater for LA Observed. He also was the LA STAGE Watch columnist and copy editor of LA STAGE Times and the theater critic of the (now defunct) alternative weekly LA CityBeat for three years. From 1990 to 2006, he was the primary theater reporter for the Los Angeles Times and, earlier, a free-lancer for the Times, for which he wrote many reviews as well as theater news and feature articles.
Prior to his California career, Don wrote about theater and other subjects as a member of the staff of the Washington Post for six years. He was a member of the LADCC during most of the ’80s and the early ’90s, and he joined the circle again in late 2013.
