Elaine (she/her) files for
Elaine began as a theater critic almost by accident in 2015. While she was on the Board for her favorite writer’s society, she happened to network with someone who does public relations for the theater – and the rest is history.
Way back in Paleolithic times, Elaine began her university career studying writing and theater – before she finally settled on psychology, finished her Ph.D. from the Graduate Faculty of the New School for Social Research in Manhattan, and ultimately became a licensed psychologist. While living in Europe and the Middle East for ten years, she taught at various universities, did research, and consulted for the World Health Organization. She also had the opportunity to publish articles to the English-language edition of the Teheran Journal and was editor of and contributor to the WHO Middle East newsletter.
When she returned to the U.S., Elaine relocated to California, where she settled into the field of psychology but always retained a special place in her heart for theater and writing. That flame became a bonfire when she began to write reviews for Splash Magazine. Even during the pandemic, she continued to review live theater on Zoom, as well as films and books. She became a member of LADCC in 2025.
By the way, Elaine still travels extensively and often checks out the international theater scene.
