Skillfully helmed by Tony Pasqualini, SLAVA UKRAINI! is a tight-lipped, grisly moment in a ghastly time of war as the audience shares space in the ravaged bunker with the three battle-scarred soldiers. The cast does an excellent job of conveying the hopeless, heartless, and never-ending stress that is wartime. Brad Bentz’s set, props, and costumes coupled with Matt Richter’s lighting, sound, and video and Victor Makohonenko’s graffiti-covered walls blend perfectly together to create a shadowy image of destruction and loss. Edward Hong – The Nerds Of Color
A Few Thoughts Theater Company‘s inaugural production of Slava Ukraini! (or Waiting for Elon) is a promising start with a strong ensemble cast, interesting setup packed with urgent relevancy, and fantastic direction. Tackling the Russia-Ukraine War is no small feat and while the wordiness of the play may be off-putting, there is much to admire in this production. Read more…
